Enroll Today! Middle-School Age Social Skills Group
Our "middle-school" (ages approximately 8-12) social skills group will be beginning Friday, October 21, 2011. The group will run once a week from 4:00-5:00pm for 10 consecutive weeks, skipping Thanksgiving (November 25, 2011). The last group session will be December 30, 2011. The group is held by a speech-language pathologist with a strong background in group dynamics.
Children with PDD, High Functioning Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, and Pragmatic Language Disorders are invited to build communicatory and peer interactive skills. Children with ADHD, auditory processing, social anxiety, and those using alternative/augmentative communication would also benefit from this group. Group goals include greeting/bidding farewell, making introductions, asking questions, sharing ideas, expressing needs/wants, accepting suggestions, identifying emotions, monitoring body language, developing personal space understanding, repairing miscommunication, and listening to others. Groups are limited to 6 students, and students must be willing to participate in a group environment. Participation requires basic conversational skills, ability to respond to Who, What, Where, When and Why questions, and willingness to follow directions.
Pre-registration is required. Please call (843) 815-6999 and let Jan know you would like to enroll your child in this unique group. If preferred, you can email Jessi at jdolnik@lowcountrytherapycenter.com.
